House Keeping

We hope you enjoy your stay with us. To make your stay as pleasant as possible please be mindful of a few things.

We encourage our guests to explore as much of Fontenoy as they like, but as a working farm, please be aware that there are animals in close proximity to the cottage.

Due to the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth in Indonesia please be aware of our biosecurity measures. Please keep to all designated roads and tracks, if you have recently travelled overseas, particularly to South East Asia please declare this to us before your stay. Please make sure all shoes and clothes are clean from mud and dirt before visiting our farm.

The Animals

The family dogs; Ripper and Tuke are very friendly and love to interact, especially if you’re willing to throw a stick or kick a ball. They are not allowed to jump, so please be firm with them. If they are being a nuisance to you and your family, please let us know and we will tie them up.

The chickens are also very much free range as is the peacock, Jeffery. Please do not allow your children to chase the chickens or Jeffery, as this will put them off laying eggs and cause them stress. At times we have an abundance of eggs, which we love our guests to enjoy.

As you drive or walk through the property you will encounter both cattle and horses. If entering through a closed gate, please make sure you close it after going through.

The horses are also very friendly, but do not approach them if you are not confident around them.

Around the Farm

Please keep to all established tracks if you are driving your vehicle around the farm and if you are unsure of where you can and cannot go, please come and see us and ask.

We also ask for our guests to not venture into any of the farm sheds or other buildings, as some of them are quite old and unsafe and have large farm machinery housed in them.

One of the most important things is to please mind your speed as your driving in and out of the property. There are always children around the houses and sheds, as well as animals and general farm life occurring.

We encourage our guests to enjoy an outdoor fire at night. Please use the established fire pits, and please do not light fires in any other areas of the farm, unless you request permission. (e.g. a small fire by the river). The wood inside the big drums is for the inside fires only. If you need more wood for the firepits, you can purchase some from us or buy some split and bagged wood from the service station in town

The River

During your stay, you have exclusive access to the 3km of Murrumbidgee River that runs through Fontenoy.

There are some great swimming holes and picnic spots as well of plenty of river to fish. If you would like to have a BBQ down there let us know and we can supply one for you.

You can access the river by car, but will need a 4wd to drive along the entire length.

To get to the river, take the driveway directly across from the mailbox on the road, follow that road for approx. 3kms. When you see the house come into view look out for a small painted metal wheel with RIVER on it to your left, take this track above the house to access the riverbank.

 ·      At present access along the river is limited to walking only due to the wet weather and a few crossing being washed out.

Inside the Cottage

Waste

As a rural property we are responsible for our own waste. Please place only bagged rubbish in the Otto bins.

A silver bucket is provided under the sink for all food scraps including, meat, eggshells, and any green waste. (The chickens will eat it all) This can be given to the chooks in the chook pen or left on the kitchen bench on departure for us to take care of.

Heating

All beds have electric blankets. Please make sure they are turned off before you leave for the day and on departure.

The wood fires are adequate to keep the cottage warm and toasty. The best way to get the fire going quickly is to light it on high with the door slightly ajar, and once it is well alight, close the door and turn the air down. Use small sticks of kindling to get it going.

Please do not clean out the fireboxes. Do not under any circumstances put hot coals in the otto bins or in the grassed areas. This will cause a fire to start.

On departure

Please ensure all lights, heaters, electric blankets etc. are turned off. All cupboards and fridge are empty of food and place all rubbish in the bins out side.

If there is anything that needs our attention, please let us know so we can fix it before the next guests arrive.

Your furry friends

We love having our guest bring their pets to enjoy Fontenoy, please ensure only house trained pets are allowed inside. We also ask that pets not be allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture.

If your pet likes to chase chickens, please keep them on a lead in the yard.

And please do not place your dog droppings in a plastic bag and put them in the bins. We are farm and the best place for this is in the long grass or larger yard, preferably not in front of the cottage.

We are constantly improving and upgrading our accommodation and infrastructure, if there is anything that needs attention, please do not hesitate to let us know.

For any needs during your stay we are always available.

Your Hosts Ineke & Guy
